Starting as an Asian Pacific American community-based filmmaker's collective in 1970, VC has presented honest and accurate depictions of Asian American and Pacific Islander peoples, communities and heritages.

The VC Archives serves as an integral part of our production activities, ensuring the preservation and presentation of our films and videos. Our videos document Asian American solidarity and social justice movements, pivotal historical events, and communities in California.

The Visual Communications Archives Photographic Collection is comprised of over 1,000,000 film and digital still images. Since the organization’s founding, the VC Archives has documented and collected photographs from different places and times.

VC Archives Exhibitions are a product of wanting to make the VC Archives more accessible to the public. Activations range from screenings, exhibitions, workshops, galleries, and panels & conversations.

The Oral History Collection is composed of interviews with prominent community members and organizers, as well as interviews from those who were and are involved with Visual Communications.

Over the years, the VC Archives has collected materials that show us where we have been and where we hoped to go. These include pamphlets, catalogs, t-shirts, buttons, stickers, zines, research materials, postcards, and more.

Visual Communications published three books that document the organization’s history and passion for media. These publications activated our collections and placed VC as a place where Asian American media can be found and preserved.
